This year’s annual OPD Open Week will take place between 13th and 21st August 2022. During this period One Planet Developments throughout Cymru/Wales will offer guided tours. See details below.Open Week Schedule and Booking Details


SATURDAY 13th AUGUST

11am: Tyddyn Hedd, Lammas Ecovillage, SA34 0YD
This tour is hosted by the Lammas Ecovillage. Suggested donation £7.50 per adult No booking required – Tour begins in the Community Hub Car park at Lammas

2pm: Swn y Coed, Ty Gwennol, Dan y Berllan at Rhiw Las, Llanboidy SA34 0LH

Rhiw Las is a group of four OPD smallholdings granted planning permission in 2016. You’ll meet residents from Ty Gwennol (oat milk business, sheep, load-bearing straw bale house), Dan Y Berllan (poultry, bees, orchard and heritage seed, timber frame straw bale house) and Swn y Coed (vegetable boxes, salads, log cabin house)

SUNDAY 14 AUGUST

10am: Green Apple, Cosheston SA72 4TZ
Timber house , wood fired shower visitor facility , orchard, woodland, fruit veg , yoga dance and meditation. Contributions as you wish. Email greenapplecross@yahoo.co.uk to book your place and receive directions.

2pm: Perllan Herberdeg, Pontyates, Llenelli SA15 5UQ
Has only recently had its OPD application granted, but we’ve had the 15 acre plot for a few years so there’s still lots to see including agroforestry plantings, fruit cage area, field crops and coppice, plus raised beds, cold frames, compost bins, wood store, greenhouse and water storage all made from salvaged materials. We’ve not started work on the house yet, but we’re a really good example of what can be done either before or while you’re waiting for planning permission.

MONDAY 15th AUGUST

10am: Parc yr Odyn, Hebron SA34 0XT
Parc yr Odyn OPD is in its second year and we are close to finishing building our house (straw bale passive house) and ancillary buildings. We keep bees and produce fermented vegetables, salads and plants for sale. We’ve recently planted up an area of agro forestry, a new woodland and heritage cider orchard.
Suggested donation £8 per adult. (discount if you come by bike or on foot).

1pm: Gelli y Gafel, Glandwr SA34 0YD
Our project began as a Forest Garden in 2011 and has developed into an OPD smallholding. We have a self-built workshop and are just beginning our house build. Our land based businesses are diverse but based around foraging wild foods, woodcrafts, wine making and shepherding. More information on our website at www.gelli.cymru

10am: Hafan y Coed, Glandwr SA34 0YD
Hafan y coed is an Agroforestry holding started in 2017, specialising in Food forest and Pollinator plants from the nursery and commercial perennial food crops, straw bale house.

2pm: Willow Farm, Tenby
The smallest known OPD to date, specialising in recycling, reusing and doing ‘OPD on a budget’. We can show you our 100% reliance on rainwater harvesting, solar electricity system, forest garden, short rotation willow, natural beekeeping and poultry keeping.

FRIDAY 19th AUGUST



10am: Pencoed, Llechryd, Cardigan SA43 2PB

Pencoed is a 12.6 acre farm with cultivated growing areas, wild meadows, woodland, ponds and wetland. The off-grid family home was completed in 2021. Household waste water is treated using possibly the first domestic scale WET system in the UK, featuring flush internal loos, external composting and a plant based nutrient recycling plant. Land based enterprise includes no till vegetable and orchard fruit growing, plant and tree nursery, basketry, and timber based craft products grown and harvested onsite.

1pm: Twiscob Top, Presteigne, LD8 2NT (please note that it is not possible to get here from the morning tour at Pencoed)

Twiscob Top is a 17 acre site in its second year as an OPD. Our house is based on Mark Waghorn’s One Planet Caravan design and we are working towards establishing a bush fruit and tree nursery. Early days here and still lots to do but please feel free to come and ask questions.

11am: Berllan Dawel, Lammas Ecovillage, SA34 0YD

2pm Beeview Farm, Newport SA42 0QD
Beeview Farm is an OPD in North Pembrokeshire granted planning permission in 2016. We are stupidly passionate about edible landscapes, harnessing the power of biology and making stuff out of scrapheap junk (including our house). We also sell eggs and honey and grow plenty of food on some of the worst agricultural land in Britain.

SUNDAY 21st AUGUST

11am: Baradwys, Clynderwen SA66 7SH
Baradwys is a single OPD smallholding of a family of 4 people. Our planning permission was granted in 2019 after a delay, due to a rare butterfly’s habitat was discovered. We are working with NRW (National Resources Wales) to preserve this habitat (it’s status is pSSSI). We recently moved onto our plot in April 2021 so it is a great site visit to see the early stages and for information on marrying up SSI sites with OPD.

1pm: Gardd Darna, Clynderwen SA66 7SH
Gardd Darna is a 6-acre OPD granted planning permission on Oct 2018, with main business plan of selling plants in our Honesty Stall. we have different animals from sheep to chickens, good growing area of vegetables for our self-sufficiency and you may also see the new Trout Pond and Wildlife Pond that just finished.

If you stay out of doors there should be no difficulty.  We suggest you begin with a quick explanation at the beginning of the tour, noting anything relevant such as toilet arrangements, any building site hazards, animals to avoid, etc.
